    Day 8: Lethbridge Concert Review

    Enmax Centre, Lethbridge, AB
    Saturday, November 25, 2000

"An Evening with the Tragically Hip!!" After seeing the Hip less than a month ago in Fort Collins and Denver in consecutive nights, we thought we had seen it all. Wrong!! Of the approximately twelve or so shows I have seen, the Lethbridge show ranks right up there with the best! The energy was at an all time high, particularly by Gord, who was as animated as I've witnessed.

On the trip up from Montana, accompanied by my brother Mark, we had narrowed our list down to four or so songs that we wanted to share with Hip fans across North America. We settled on Tiger the Lion, and we were not disappointed! (see the video in a few days). It was an incredible set list tonight. In addition to Tiger, some of the other songs that were memorable include Last of the Unplucked Gems, Nautical Disaster, Courage, Poets, 100th Meridian, Don't wake Daddy and Fire in the Hole.

For those lucky enough to follow me as contest winners, you are in for a seriously good time. One of the benefits is having the set list before the show starts! Your host, Ross, is definitely the man! After he gave us a quick tour of the venue, we sat down to an extended sound check that was worth the trip in itself. I highly recommend seeing this tour - this band only gets better and to be able to see an extended play list that includes several tunes from each CD is awesome.

The Enmax Center in Lethbridge is a great venue that holds 6,000 plus. The crowd was definitely into it. The few times I was able to tear myself away from the great show I would turn to see a gyrating sea of arms, everyone enjoying all thirty-two songs.

We were certainly pumped and enthused in our long drive up north to see this show though we knew the that the drive home may be long as the fun would be over. I now know it will go quick as we think of our great evening with the Tragically Hip!

P.S. If you are in a hurry as you are crossing the border, don't tell them you are going to see a rock concert because you will be treated to a full inquisition and search. Though I do think ours went a little quicker because our border patrolman was duly impressed with our good fortune as he was looking forward to the show, also.

Help: After the show at Enmax Centre in Lethbridge on November 25th a Jerry Jones electric sitar went missing. If you know where it is or think you may have seen it anywhere [still at the Enmax, houses, shops, Ebay] please let The Hip know via email - tth@thehip.com. No questions asked if returned. Reward. Sitar description - red, six string + 16-string harp, pebbled rough surface, oval shaped body and the pick guards are clear and elevated off the body. The black carrying case has silver latches and is too big for the sitar.

    Winning Entry

"You see, I'm Tragically Hip." Although I live in MT, I have been to shows in CO, WA, Alberta and BC.

Although I have mellowed, I once jumped on stage (Seattle, "Under the Rail" '93) and played air guitar next to Bobby! Hello Heaven! ]

Although many years have passed, I feel their latest work (Music @ Work) is every bit as good as their first few CD's and their live shows only get better.

I have approximately 20 bootleg CD's, but to actually do my own video would be the icing on the cake! I would very much like to be selected and would put out the best video, with what I would guarantee to be the best commentary!

Although I now work as a professional in the insurance industry, I make time to travel and see the Hip every tour! I have a fairly significant video collection also and can't imagine actually having one that I actually produced.

    Thanks for your consideration!!!!!
